Creativity and New Media

Today I would like to share my experience that took place last spring. I was a part of the 2019 CUNY-IBM Watson Social Impact Challenge. It was a semester-long project and it required to come up with a social problem for NYC that could be solved using IBM Watson. My team had 3 members and we worked really hard to come up with an effective solution. The essential part of our project was the usage of New Media in order to find the best and quickest ways of problem-solving. This project required a lot of knowledge, persistence, and creativity. Please, watch our video and you will get a brief understanding of our project. Pay attention to the 0:50 - 1:03 minutes, where you can find the explanation of how Social Media suppose to help us identify and fix the problem.

How much time do we spend while watching/reading the news? Probably more than 30 - 40 minutes daily! Some people spend hours! Can you imagine how awesome it would be if we have the option to absorb the news we are interested in within the seconds?! This new media will be arranging all news into the set of codes. Reading or watching those codes will take seconds, however, the information summarized in it will expand in our minds and will provide a complete and detailed picture of all the news we wanted to know. It will save a lot of time and will give us an ability to learn and be aware of much more information we never had time for.

Blog about Twitter

Social media is an amazing tool for sharing any kind of information: from breaking news to things you admire. It works like magic - spreading news withing the seconds. Twitter is just a perfect example. It is super easy to manage, easy to follow pages you are interested in, easy to share. Discussion on Twitter is very different from ones on BlackBoard in my opinion. When you write for BlackBoard it comes out long. You make it long in order to prove that you are confident in the topic you are writing about and you have that deep understanding of it. Usually, you do it in order to complete your homework assignment. Also, you "forced" to comment on other students' stuff in order to get credit for the work. However, on Twitter, you write short, to the point, something meaningful, something that can catch attention. Any comment comes out naturally, without certain pressure. In-class discussion is totally different. It is a natural environment where students and professors shar

Privacy

The only way to keep your life private is to stay away from new media at any cost! Even if it is true, it might sound a little bit critical, since today is hard to isolate yourself completely from new media. Very few people in society like ours are willing to give up on that. We can encounter privacy issues basically everywhere. The simplest example - our pictures on social media like Facebook or Instagram. Once it's there you can not actually have control over it. It does not matter if you have some privacy filters. It can be saved, print screened, or reposted at any point, so it will never belong to you anymore. Luckily if your personal info does not arise any interest, otherwise - you are lost.  The delete button is not that magical as you wish. Yes, you can delete any picture from your account but it will continue its life somewhere else in the endless clouds of the Internet. The other popular issue is online shopping. Oh boy, it is an amazing feature and scary at the same ti
