Social Networking

Social media is an awesome way not only to communicate with each other or to entertain ourselves but also it can be used as a powerful tool to promote your company or to increase sales. For an ordinary user, it could be very useful to see offers from the favorite online stores while scrolling social media such as Facebook. It is the easiest way to learn that a new collection of clothing is out or there is a markdown at the furniture store. However, it could be very annoying as well, since most users are not eager to buy something constantly. Some Social Networking platforms created sections where people are selling/buying stuff. Let's take a look at Facebook Marketplace: it is very easy to manage, however, it can be really messy. Also, there is a risk to become a victim of crooks. According to Carrie Kerskie in the article Multi-Million Dollar Scam Being Used on Facebook, criminals like to go where there is an expectation of trust, and they that know when they're using marketplace or garage sales groups, people assume it's their neighbors who they are buying from or selling to.
Social Networking helped millions in starting businesses and promoting their product/service. It became an essential tool for each growing company. Article How to Build a Community on Social Media gave us an example that social media can be used to display the company's capabilities.

The future will bring us an even wider selection of ways social networking can be used. However, it is important to understand that great benefits will always come along with some downsides of it.

Creativity and New Media

Today I would like to share my experience that took place last spring. I was a part of the 2019 CUNY-IBM Watson Social Impact Challenge. It was a semester-long project and it required to come up with a social problem for NYC that could be solved using IBM Watson. My team had 3 members and we worked really hard to come up with an effective solution. The essential part of our project was the usage of New Media in order to find the best and quickest ways of problem-solving. This project required a lot of knowledge, persistence, and creativity. Please, watch our video and you will get a brief understanding of our project. Pay attention to the 0:50 - 1:03 minutes, where you can find the explanation of how Social Media suppose to help us identify and fix the problem. Social Networking Sites

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram... all these names are so well known. Even not an active user of social media can distinguish the difference between these four. For me, Facebook is more about people I know. I am trying to limit my Facebook friend list to those I had some sort of connection with. So by scrolling the news, I see only the information related to them: their most important life events or thing they like. LinkedIn, for instance, is more professional and to the point. It is a platform for collaboration, communication, and opportunities. It is a great place to declare yourself as a professional and a valuable asset. Instagram is all about beauty, advertisement, and popularity. When I scroll it I get the feeling that people are trying to be much better than they really are. They are creating an illusion, a perfect picture of their ordinary lives. But I have to admit that Instagram is a hard job as well. In order to stay interesting for the followers, people spending m...
