How much time do we spend while watching/reading the news? Probably more than 30 - 40 minutes daily! Some people spend hours! Can you imagine how awesome it would be if we have the option to absorb the news we are interested in within the seconds?! This new media will be arranging all news into the set of codes. Reading or watching those codes will take seconds, however, the information summarized in it will expand in our minds and will provide a complete and detailed picture of all the news we wanted to know. It will save a lot of time and will give us an ability to learn and be aware of much more information we never had time for.

Wiki So Far

Working on Wiki seems easier than it actually is. It took a while for me to understand how to navigate and edit or add dome information. I did not create any new pages. However, I spent time reading the content that already existed and thinking about my contribution. I noticed minor grammar mistakes and edited it. I added more information to Pinterest (Fashion) and Fingerlings (New Media In Toys). Also. I am planning to add more content to Fashion especially to the Makeup section. Also, I did not add any images yet, so in the next couple of days, I am going to work much more on Wiki.

P2P

What is file sharing? File sharing is the ability to access and transmit data from one device to another. What can be shared? The answer to this question is pretty much everything: movies, music, electronic books different types of documents or even software. What is P2P File sharing? I decided to borrow the definition of P2P directly from Margomin. According to the article, P2P file sharing is a peer to peer file sharing which allows individuals to access media files using a software program that searches and locates computers that have the file that is wanted. P2P file sharing allows users to share files online through a network of software programs. What are some examples of P2P file sharing? I believe many of us used P2P at least at some point in our lives. I am familiar with uTorrent Classic and BitTorrent. It was relatively fast and save way to download files. Also, there are a bunch of P2P that no longer exist such as Kazaa, Morpheus, Limeware, and others. Works Cited

Privacy

The only way to keep your life private is to stay away from new media at any cost! Even if it is true, it might sound a little bit critical, since today is hard to isolate yourself completely from new media. Very few people in society like ours are willing to give up on that. We can encounter privacy issues basically everywhere. The simplest example - our pictures on social media like Facebook or Instagram. Once it's there you can not actually have control over it. It does not matter if you have some privacy filters. It can be saved, print screened, or reposted at any point, so it will never belong to you anymore. Luckily if your personal info does not arise any interest, otherwise - you are lost.  The delete button is not that magical as you wish. Yes, you can delete any picture from your account but it will continue its life somewhere else in the endless clouds of the Internet. The other popular issue is online shopping. Oh boy, it is an amazing feature and scary at the same ti

Advice

Being part of Baruch makes me proud. I wish all students can feel the same. To get into students' hearts is easy - they have to feel that Baruch is not only a great academic institution or a safe environment but also a place that is actually very close and approachable. To improve those factors Baruch should pay greater attention to the usage of new media. All Social Media pages managed by Baruch that I had a chance to analyze were just too dry.  Yes, there is new information every once in a while,  but it is not that dynamic at all. The young generation does not like to see the same posts all over again, only creative stuff catches attention, something new, fresh and juicy should appear every day, or even more often. Different offices within Baruch should have own style, for sure. I agree that the Financial aid office should not post jokes here and there, but they can take extra time and constantly post some brief explanation of the most common issues students usually have on Soc

HW Creativity

Can you imagine all Social Media have the same interface, same content, same purpose, same target audience? It would be too boring! Can you imagine each online magazine has the same authors? No way! Creativity is an essential power for New Media in order to catch people's attention. Everyone in the new media world is trying to be unique, interesting and authentic. It is extremely important to find new and creative ways to get the desired audience, potential buyers, or future subscribers. It takes a lot of effort to be ahead of everyone else, to stay interesting, to be in trend, to stay popular. I believe that New Media fosters a remarkable amount of creativity not on a daily, but hourly basis. The article, How User-generated Content can Improve Your Social-media Marketing Strategy by Lisa Mulcahy provides us with examples of how to reach new customers on social media.  It is very important to give the truthful information and constantly show appreciation to your customers. Also,

Creativity and New Media

Today I would like to share my experience that took place last spring. I was a part of the 2019 CUNY-IBM Watson Social Impact Challenge. It was a semester-long project and it required to come up with a social problem for NYC that could be solved using IBM Watson. My team had 3 members and we worked really hard to come up with an effective solution. The essential part of our project was the usage of New Media in order to find the best and quickest ways of problem-solving. This project required a lot of knowledge, persistence, and creativity. Please, watch our video and you will get a brief understanding of our project. Pay attention to the 0:50 - 1:03 minutes, where you can find the explanation of how Social Media suppose to help us identify and fix the problem. Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Virtual Worlds...sounds very intriguing. It evokes our imagination and curiosity. But what is it? The virtual world is a computer-based environment that can be managed by an individual. There are so many ways virtual reality can be used! A person can explore any countries/cities/places, or experience activities such as swimming or riding the camel while physically not able to do so, also, it is possible to mentally adjust for something unknown such as flying to the Moon, or it is an advanced way to learn. Actually, the virtual world gives us so many opportunities to improve our knowledge and earn new skills. However, it is very important to know how to use it but not to get addicted to it. According to the article, The virtual world moves into the classroom by Joe Earl, they're taking virtual field trips to faraway places, learning about the lives of refugee families or studying the inner working of volcanos. Virtual reality has so many advantages in different fields like education

Social Networking Sites

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram... all these names are so well known. Even not an active user of social media can distinguish the difference between these four. For me, Facebook is more about people I know. I am trying to limit my Facebook friend list to those I had some sort of connection with. So by scrolling the news, I see only the information related to them: their most important life events or thing they like. LinkedIn, for instance, is more professional and to the point. It is a platform for collaboration, communication, and opportunities. It is a great place to declare yourself as a professional and a valuable asset. Instagram is all about beauty, advertisement, and popularity. When I scroll it I get the feeling that people are trying to be much better than they really are. They are creating an illusion, a perfect picture of their ordinary lives. But I have to admit that Instagram is a hard job as well. In order to stay interesting for the followers, people spending m

Blog about Twitter

Social media is an amazing tool for sharing any kind of information: from breaking news to things you admire. It works like magic - spreading news withing the seconds. Twitter is just a perfect example. It is super easy to manage, easy to follow pages you are interested in, easy to share. Discussion on Twitter is very different from ones on BlackBoard in my opinion. When you write for BlackBoard it comes out long. You make it long in order to prove that you are confident in the topic you are writing about and you have that deep understanding of it. Usually, you do it in order to complete your homework assignment. Also, you "forced" to comment on other students' stuff in order to get credit for the work. However, on Twitter, you write short, to the point, something meaningful, something that can catch attention. Any comment comes out naturally, without certain pressure. In-class discussion is totally different. It is a natural environment where students and professors shar
